Ford IDS has evolved significantly since its initial release, with each version adding support for new model years, improved programming capabilities, and expanded network coverage. Here is the complete version history.
Ford IDS Early Versions (2004–2010)
Ford IDS replaced the older Ford NGS (New Generation Star) tester in 2004. Early versions focused on replacing paper-based repair manuals and adding basic electronic programming capabilities for pre-CAN Ford vehicles.
- IDS 1.x – 5.x: Basic fault code reading, live data, and PCM programming for 2004–2007 model years
- IDS 6.x – 8.x: Expanded to cover first-generation Ford CAN vehicles (2007–2009 F-Series, Edge, Explorer)
Ford IDS Mid-Era Versions (2011–2018)
- IDS 95.x: First major version to support Ford EcoBoost engines, Focus and Fiesta DCT transmission programming
- IDS 100.x: Added Ford SYNC module programming, EPAS (Electric Power Assisted Steering) calibration
- IDS 104.x: Expanded to cover F-150 aluminum body (2015+), new MS-CAN and HS-CAN configurations
- IDS 108.x – 112.x: Support for Mustang GT350/GT500, Focus RS, 10-speed transmission programming
Ford IDS Recent Versions (2019–2022)
- IDS 117.x: Added Ford Ranger (2019+), Transit (2020+) updates, improved ADAS module calibration
- IDS 120.x: Support for Ford Bronco (2021), Maverick (2022), Mustang Mach-E programming
- IDS February 2022: The version available in the offline VMware package — covers all Ford models through 2022 model year with full programming and ETIS data
Ford IDS 2023–2025 (Online Subscription)
Recent Ford IDS versions (2023–2025) are only available through the Ford online subscription (ETIS.ford.com) and require continuous internet connectivity for module programming. These versions add coverage for:
- Ford F-150 Lightning (2022+) EV-specific diagnostics
- Ford E-Transit electric van
- 2023–2024 Ford Mustang (S650 platform)
- Updated ADAS calibration procedures for BlueCruise systems
Which Version Should You Use?
For most independent workshops covering Ford vehicles up to 2022, the offline IDS February 2022 VMware version is the most practical choice — complete factory data and programming without subscription costs. Only shops working regularly on 2023+ Ford electric vehicles require the newer subscription-based versions.
