This guide walks you through your first Renault CAN Clip diagnostic session from start to finish β connecting the interface, reading all fault codes, viewing live data, and performing a service reset.
What You Need
- Renault CAN Clip V236 installed (Windows 7 or compatible setup)
- CAN Clip USB interface dongle
- Renault, Dacia, or supported Nissan vehicle
- Vehicle ignition key / key card
Step 1: Connect to the Vehicle
- Plug the CAN Clip USB dongle into your laptop
- Connect the OBD2 cable end of the CAN Clip interface to the vehicle OBD2 port (under dashboard, driver side)
- Turn the vehicle ignition to ON (engine does not need to start)
- Open Renault CAN Clip software
Step 2: Vehicle Identification
- CAN Clip prompts you to identify the vehicle
- Select “Auto Detection” β CAN Clip reads the VIN from the vehicle and identifies the model automatically
- Confirm the vehicle details (year, engine type, market)
Step 3: Full Computer Scan
Select “All Computers” β “Fault Codes” to scan every module in the vehicle. CAN Clip displays all stored fault codes with their official Renault descriptions and recommended diagnostic actions.
Step 4: View Live Data (Parameters)
Select a system (e.g., Injection) β Parameters. You can add parameters to a watch list and monitor real-time values while the engine runs. Key engine parameters: coolant temperature, manifold pressure, fuel rail pressure, throttle position, MAF, lambda values, idle correction.
Step 5: Perform a Service Reset
Select “Injection” or “Instrument Panel” β Command β find the relevant service reset (oil change, inspection interval). Confirm the reset β the dashboard service indicator clears.
Step 6: Clear Fault Codes
After completing repairs, return to the fault code screen β select all codes β Erase. Perform another full scan to confirm no codes remain.
