Everything you need to know about Diagbox 9.129 — 18 of the most commonly asked questions, answered directly.
General Questions
What is Diagbox 9.129?
Diagbox 9.129 is PSA Group’s (now Stellantis) official dealer diagnostic software for Peugeot, Citroën, DS, and Opel/Vauxhall PSA-platform vehicles. It provides full system-level diagnostics, ECU programming, BSI configuration, key programming, and all dealer-level functions. Read the complete guide for full details.
Which vehicles does Diagbox 9.129 cover?
Diagbox 9.129 covers Peugeot (106 through 5008 up to 2022), Citroën (C1 through C8 up to 2022), DS Automobiles (DS3 through DS9), and Opel/Vauxhall models built on the PSA platform (Corsa E/F, Astra K, Grandland X, Crossland X).
Does Diagbox need an internet connection?
No. Diagbox 9.129 runs completely offline. The vehicle database, DTC descriptions, and guided diagnostic procedures are all stored locally within the VMware image. You only need a network connection if you choose to check for updates — which is not required for normal use.
Does it run on Windows 11?
Yes — the VMware version runs on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. Diagbox itself requires Windows XP or Windows 7, but the VMware image handles this by running Windows 7 inside the virtual machine. Your host OS can be Windows 10 or 11 without any issues.
Technical Questions
What interface/VCI does Diagbox 9.129 use?
The most common and reliable option is the Lexia 3 PP2000 USB interface. The newer DiagPlug works for later CAN-bus only vehicles. J2534 PassThru adapters are compatible for CAN vehicles. The Proxia is the professional dealer-grade option.
VMware vs native install — which should I use?
Use VMware. Native installation on Windows 10/11 requires extensive compatibility workarounds (compatibility modes, registry tweaks, driver patches) and often results in crashes or functions not working. The VMware version is pre-configured, stable, and requires no technical setup beyond importing the image.
How much disk space does the VM need?
The Diagbox 9.129 VMware image requires approximately 35–40 GB of disk space. An SSD is strongly recommended — boot time on SSD is 30–60 seconds; on a mechanical HDD it can take several minutes. See full system requirements here.
Why isn’t my Lexia 3 being recognized inside the VM?
This is almost always a USB passthrough issue. Ensure the USB controller in VMware settings is set to USB 2.0 (not 3.0). After plugging in the Lexia 3, click the USB icon in VMware’s taskbar and select “Connect (Disconnect from Host)” to pass the device into the VM. On first use, Windows inside the VM will install drivers automatically.
Can Diagbox program keys and transponders?
Yes. Diagbox 9.129 supports full key programming for most PSA vehicles — adding new keys, deleting lost keys, and programming remote fobs. Specific functions depend on the vehicle’s immobiliser generation. BSI access credentials are required for some later immobiliser systems.
Can Diagbox reset the BSI after replacement?
Yes — BSI configuration and recoding after BSI replacement is one of Diagbox’s most important functions, and one that no generic scanner can perform. After fitting a replacement BSI, Diagbox writes the correct vehicle configuration (VIN, mileage, options) to the new unit.
Does Diagbox support DPF regeneration?
Yes. Diagbox can initiate a forced DPF regeneration cycle for all diesel PSA vehicles. The process runs for 20–30 minutes with live monitoring of exhaust temperature and differential pressure across the filter.
What is the difference between Diagbox and PIWIS (Porsche)?
They are completely separate tools from different manufacturers. Diagbox is PSA Group’s tool for Peugeot/Citroën/DS/Opel. PIWIS is Porsche’s proprietary diagnostic platform. They share no software or hardware compatibility.
Purchase & Download Questions
How is the Diagbox 9.129 VMware image delivered?
It is a digital download. After purchase, you receive a secure download link. The file is a compressed VMware archive that you extract and import directly into VMware Player.
Is installation support included?
Yes. The purchase includes setup support via email. The VMware setup guide covers all steps in detail and most customers are up and running within 30 minutes.
Can I run Diagbox on a MacBook or Linux machine?
Yes — with VMware Fusion (Mac) or VMware Workstation (Linux). The same VMware image works across platforms. Note that USB passthrough configuration differs slightly on Mac — VMware Fusion handles it through the Virtual Machine menu.
Is this the same version used in PSA dealerships?
Yes. The software and database are identical to what authorized Peugeot and Citroën dealerships use. The only difference is that the dealer version receives live online updates and live programming file downloads from PSA’s servers, while the offline version uses the included pre-loaded database.
