Diagbox Version History: From Lexia 3 to Diagbox 9.129 — What Changed?

PSA’s official diagnostic software has evolved significantly from the early Lexia 3 days to the current Diagbox 9.x series. Understanding this evolution helps technicians choose the right version for their vehicle coverage needs and explains why 9.129 is the current standard for independent workshops.

Lexia 3 / PP2000 — The Original (2000s)

PSA’s first standardized dealer tool was the Lexia 3 interface running the PP2000 software. Introduced in the early 2000s, it was the standard across all Peugeot and Citroën dealerships worldwide for nearly a decade. PP2000 ran on Windows XP and communicated via a proprietary 30-pin or VAN/CAN interface. Coverage extended to all Peugeot and Citroën vehicles built before approximately 2012.

Despite its age, Lexia 3 / PP2000 is still used by classic PSA enthusiasts for pre-2010 vehicles where Diagbox offers no additional benefit over the older platform.

Diagbox 6.x — First Unified Platform (2010–2013)

Diagbox version 6 was PSA’s first attempt to unify the PP2000 and Lexia platforms into a single software solution. Running on Windows XP and Windows 7, it maintained compatibility with the Lexia 3 hardware interface while adding support for newer CAN-bus only vehicles. Key additions: structured fault-finding procedures, improved actuation tests, and early BSI programming support.

Diagbox 7.x — DS Brand Integration (2014–2016)

Version 7 added dedicated coverage for the newly launched DS brand (DS3, DS4, DS5) which separated from Citroën as a standalone marque in 2014. ECU programming functions were expanded significantly, and support for newer BSI hardware versions was added. The interface was modernized but remained Windows 7-only.

Diagbox 8.x — Platform Consolidation (2017–2019)

Version 8 brought a major internal architecture refresh. Coverage expanded to include Opel/Vauxhall models built on the PSA platform following the 2017 GM acquisition by PSA Group. Key additions included improved DPF regeneration functions, expanded key programming for newer transponder systems, and faster ECU communication protocols.

Diagbox 9.x — Current Series (2020–Present)

The 9.x series represents a significant update to the Diagbox platform, adding:

  • Coverage for DS7 Crossback, DS9, and all 2020–2022 Peugeot/Citroën models
  • Expanded Opel/Vauxhall PSA-platform coverage (Grandland X, Corsa F)
  • Updated guided fault-finding procedures aligned with the latest PSA repair manuals
  • Improved VMware compatibility for modern hardware
  • Enhanced EAT8 automatic gearbox programming functions

Why 9.129 Is the Recommended Version

Within the 9.x series, version 9.129 has emerged as the most stable release for independent workshop use. It provides broad vehicle coverage through 2022 model year, has fewer VMware compatibility issues than earlier 9.x releases, and the DTC database is comprehensive enough to cover the vast majority of vehicles independent workshops encounter.
