Renault CAN Clip is the official diagnostic software used at all Renault and Dacia dealerships worldwide. Version 236 is the latest release, covering Renault vehicles up to 2024 model year with full OEM-level access to every electronic system.
What Is Renault CAN Clip?
Renault CAN Clip is Renault’s proprietary multi-brand dealer diagnostic platform. The “CAN Clip” name comes from the hardware interface β a dedicated USB dongle that connects to the vehicle OBD2 port and to the PC running the CAN Clip software. Together, they provide the same diagnostic capability used at authorized Renault and Dacia workshops.
Vehicle Coverage
- Renault: Clio, Megane, Laguna, Scenic, Kangoo, Master, Trafic, Captur, Kadjar, Zoe (EV), Talisman, Koleos, Espace, Twingo, Sandero (Dacia-based)
- Dacia: Sandero, Logan, Duster, Spring (EV), Dokker, Lodgy, Jogger
- Nissan (European): Selected Nissan models sold in Europe (Micra, Note, Juke β older models sharing Renault platforms)
- Coverage: 1998 to 2024 model year
CAN Clip V236 Key Functions
- Fault code reading and clearing (all modules)
- Live data monitoring and graphing
- Actuator and component tests
- ECU programming and recoding after replacement
- UCH (body control unit) programming
- Immobilizer (IMMO) and key card programming
- Airbag module reset after deployment
- Injection system calibration (diesel injector coding)
- Service interval reset (oil, brake fluid, air filter)
- Renault Zoe / Spring EV battery and motor diagnostics
- Automatic gearbox adaptations (EDC, DP0, TL4)
What Interface Does CAN Clip Require?
Renault CAN Clip requires its dedicated hardware interface β the CAN Clip dongle. This is not a standard J2534 adapter. The software will not function without the CAN Clip hardware connected. Compatible clone interfaces are available at lower cost than the official Renault tool.
Windows Compatibility
CAN Clip was originally designed for Windows XP and Windows 7. Running it on Windows 10 or Windows 11 requires either compatibility workarounds or a dedicated older laptop. For modern PCs, the recommended approach is a pre-configured virtual machine that handles all compatibility issues automatically.
CAN Clip vs Aftermarket Tools for Renault
Tools like Delphi DS150, Launch X431, and Autel can read basic Renault fault codes, but they cannot perform UCH programming, immobilizer key card coding, or full ECU reprogramming β functions exclusive to CAN Clip. For any Renault workshop doing beyond basic diagnostics, CAN Clip is essential.
